Information for students and families about college ICT resources and Bring Your Own Technology devices.
As part of the curriculum for all students, Hellyer College provides access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources.
ICT resources include computers, laptops, tablets and printers; college and Department for Education, Children and Young People networks; the Internet; email; digital and video cameras; electronic storage devices and mobile phones.
These technologies are used within the college for research, communicating with other people, publishing students' work and learning basic skills. The college minimises online risk through Internet filters and by educating students to participate safely and responsibly online.
An Acceptable Use Agreement will be discussed with each student when enrolling, to be signed by themselves and a parent or guardian.
There is no list of mandatory or preferred BYOT devices, but students and parents can consider which type of device is most appropriate for the subjects to be studied.
Hellyer College teachers currently use laptops or tablets loaded with Windows 11, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Edge. Students using graphics-intensive software for digital arts or computer graphics may need higher-than-average device specifications. High-speed desktop computers remain available in these areas.
